"Not of an age, but for all time" - Ben Jonson

What is there to say about the Bard of Avon that has not already been said? Born in 1564 and considered to be the greatest writer in the English language; Shakespeare's legacy is primarily that of a dramatist, writing and performing with The King's Men acting company. He died in Stratford in 1616 but his plays have since been the inspiration for myriad adaptations and re-workings across multiple genres.

The 'First Folio' contained 36 plays but no poetry; this Pocket Book prints 15 sonnets chosen by JL Carr including number 18 ("Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?"), number 116 ("Let me not to the marriage of true minds admit impediments.") and number 104 ("To me, fair friend, you never can be old")
