This Map features delicate line drawings by JL Carr of churches at Lyddington, Wardley, and Manton - to name but a few. It celebrates the mother of Isaac Newton, the founder of the Bank of England and police sergeant Codd who, in 1947 skied to the rescue of motorists on the A1. It also reports on the somewhar surprising invasion of Rutland in 1940 when German paratroopers were thought to be spotted (however, the sighting turned out to be a collapsing barrage balloon).

Poster-sized and litho printed on quality card in numbered limited editions, this is one in a series of pre-1974 county area Maps. Designed for framing and to stimulate conversation, JL Carr created the Maps as a way to present an optimistic set of testimonials to our indigenous, daring and buoyant forbears and to hearten those Englishmen who hope for a rekindling of the spirit which has enlivened our nation through its chequered history. These architectural, historical, literary and pictorial curiosities are not to be used for navigation; except in the broadest of terms.
