Marie Hartley MBE was born in 1905. She trained at Leeds College of Art and then the Slade School in London, specialising in wood engraving. With various collaborators, she wrote and illustrated around 40 books covering the social history of rural Yorkshire. Hartley was appointed MBE in 1997; she died in 2006.
This Pocket Book includes 16 pages of The Quince Tree Press' favourite of her engravings.
