Hants is the home of the great Hambledon Cricket Club and celebrated on the Map is the famous 1777 match when they beat an All England XI. CB Fry, who played cricket and football for England is also featured. In the Solent are celebrated the giant Cunard White Star Queen Mary, HMS Hood and HMS Victory; amongst others. Poster-sized and litho printed on quality card in numbered limited editions, this is one in a series of pre-1974 county area Maps. Designed for framing and to stimulate conversation, JL Carr created the Maps as a way to present an optimistic set of testimonials to our indigenous, daring and buoyant forbears and to hearten those Englishmen who hope for a rekindling of the spirit which has enlivened our nation through its chequered history. These architectural, historical, literary and pictorial curiosities are not to be used for navigation; except in the broadest of terms.
