Yorkshire, Summer 1920:  After the horrors of World War II, young conservator Tom Birkin tries to become human again while restoring a fresco in the small village of Oxgodby. A tender, elegant and unsentimental novel about the greatest things in life: the transience of happiness, the meaning of work, the nature of forgiveness and the power of memory.

Joseph "Jim" Lloyd Carr (1912-1994) was a writer and publisher at his own publishing house, The Quince Tree Press.  His best-known novel, the award-winning and beautifully adapted film A Month in the Country from 1980, is considered a masterpiece.  It is now finally available in Danish.
