Daniel Defoe may have called Derbyshire a "howling wildernesse" but this Map celebrates the waters of Buxton, the tarts of Bakewell and Chesterfield's twisted spire. Further fine architecture is also depicted at Repton, Chatsworth and Hardwick Hall. Derby itself is shown as famous for fine china whereas at Alport there is a reminder of a love feast that occurs on the first Sunday in July.

Poster-sized and litho printed on quality card in numbered limited editions, this is one in a series of pre-1974 county area Maps. Designed for framing and to stimulate conversation, JL Carr created the Maps as a way to present an optimistic set of testimonials to our indigenous, daring and buoyant forbears and to hearten those Englishmen who hope for a rekindling of the spirit which has enlivened our nation through its chequered history. These architectural, historical, literary and pictorial curiosities are not to be used for navigation; except in the broadest of terms.
