Whilst Cormoran the giant who dropped St Michael's Mount takes centre place on the Map the eye is also drawn to a carving of a mermaid around whom are written recipes for Cornish pasties and instructions for brewing ale. Famous authors Daphne du Maurier, Nevile Shute and William Golding are highlighted. Much of the coastline is littered with the location and year of wrecked ships, except at Mevagissey where there is a memorial to a monkey, believed to be a French spy, who was hanged in 1805.

Poster-sized and litho printed on quality card in numbered limited editions, this is one in a series of pre-1974 county area Maps. Designed for framing and to stimulate conversation, JL Carr created the Maps as a way to present an optimistic set of testimonials to our indigenous, daring and buoyant forbears and to hearten those Englishmen who hope for a rekindling of the spirit which has enlivened our nation through its chequered history. These architectural, historical, literary and pictorial curiosities are not to be used for navigation; except in the broadest of terms.
